Can’t Go Home Again

I was totally inspired by the Italian trio at My Aunt Margaret’s 100th birthday party. They sounded great and had wonderful costumes! I shot a ton of pictures at the party and couldn’t wait to get started on the series in the studio. I felt it would be a great way to incorporate my love of music in my art.

Fired up, the very next day I blocked in my painting, the same way I normally do.

The following morning I arrived at the studio and realized it was time to stop playing it safe. Oh I could make a nice painting with a brush but I had to see what I could do with a knife.

Here’s a sample of my wild knife pieces…

So today I started to go over the piece with a knife. I worked on the background,  his hat, skin, and a bit of his pants. He’s a mess now but I know he’s going to be beautiful when I’m done.

I’m so glad I took a chance. I’ll post pics when he’s done.

  2. :O) Thanks Randy, I am so glad you like it! He really started the whole thing. I’ve used the knife with landscape/still life but never people. Been pushing myself way past my comfort zone.

  3. cool you can paint it as a real. it is necessary to store one or two of your paints just in case if you become very famous.
